Dentures provide the benefits of having a good set of teeth after losing all or most of your original ones. Even so, dentures are not invincible. They are still subject to breakage and other damages. Here are some tips to help you keep them in good shape.

First of all, remember not to drop them. The materials the dentures are made of can break easily. Take care when you remove them from your mouth for cleaning.

We recommend that you have a towel laid out on the counter when you clean the dentures. At the very least, have something soft for them to land on should you accidentally drop them. You can also hold them over the sink and fill it with water for them to land in.

You should also be careful of the toothbrushes, toothpastes, and other cleaning materials you use on them. Hard bristled toothbrushes can damage the dentures. Abrasive toothpastes, which includes whitening toothpastes, and other abrasive cleaning materials can also harm dentures.

Do not use anything with bleach in it. Bleach can alter the color of the dentures and make them weaker. If your dentures involve metal of some kind, avoid using anything with chlorine, as chlorine can cause corroding and tarnishes on those metals.

Finally, be careful of hot water. Hot water can warp the dentures, which would make them useless to you.

If you follow these tips, you should be able to keep your dentures in good shape. Understand that they do wear overtime, but you can make them last for as long as possible by remembering these suggestions.
